In July 2006, I left Seattle and moved to Virginia after getting married.

I was young, fresh out of high school, and suddenly living far away from the people and places that had always felt familiar to me. I didn’t know many people in Virginia, and I missed my family deeply.

At first, everything felt new.

I didn’t know the area. I didn’t know where to go, who to ask for help, or how to find my place.

I was trying to adjust to marriage, adulthood, and a completely different environment all at the same time.

And a lot of the time, I felt like I had to figure everything out on my own.

But little by little, something started to change.

Instead of staying inside what felt unfamiliar, I started exploring.

I learned more about Virginia and the entire DMV area. I discovered different neighborhoods, communities, places to visit, and opportunities I never knew existed.

I started paying attention to what made each area feel different.

I remember experiencing fall in a completely new way.

The changing leaves, the colors, and eventually getting to experience all four seasons made Virginia begin to feel special to me.

What once felt unfamiliar slowly started to feel like home.

As the years passed, I learned something important: building a life in a new place doesn’t happen all at once.

It happens one decision at a time.

You learn the area. You ask questions. You find opportunities.

You make choices for yourself and your family.

And eventually, the place that once made you feel uncertain becomes a place where you feel grounded.

That experience has stayed with me.

It taught me what it feels like to be overwhelmed, to miss the support you once had, and to wonder whether you’re making the right decisions while trying to build a better future.

And that is one of the reasons I care so deeply about the women I serve today.

I understand what it means to carry responsibility while trying to figure things out. I understand how important it is to feel supported when you’re making a major life decision.

For a single mom, buying a home is about so much more than bedrooms, bathrooms, or square footage.

It can mean finally creating a place where your children feel settled.

It can mean having something that belongs to your family.

It can mean independence, security, and the confidence that comes from knowing you are building something for the future.

My job is not simply to show you houses.

My job is to help make the journey feel less confusing, less overwhelming, and less lonely.

I want you to understand your options, feel confident in your decisions, and know that you have someone beside you who genuinely cares about where you and your children end up.

Because sometimes creating a home begins long before you receive the keys.

It begins when you finally believe you can build the life you’ve been working so hard for.
